The Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. (Tallahassee Trust) is a not-for-profit organization that was created in 1988 as the direct support organization for the Historic Tallahassee Preservation Board (HTPB). Although the HTPB was dissolved in May 1997 by act of legislature, the Tallahassee Trust  continued in existence with the commitment to provide historic preservation services to the community that had been provided previously by the HTPB and the Tallahassee Trust jointly.

The Tallahassee Trust is dedicated to advancing historic preservation in this community and the surrounding areas. See the Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation List of Services. Its volunteer Board of Directors and its Professional Staff work with the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, and its citizens to identify and to evaluate our local treasures. The Tallahassee Trust offers professional historic preservation assistance to local governments in areas such as growth management, economic development and revitalization and planning. It assists the public, private organizations and individuals with public awareness events focusing on the community's heritage and provides professional staff to the Tallahassee/Leon County Architectural Review Board. The Tallahassee Trust maintains, updates, and makes available its Historic Preservation Special Collections Library and Research Center and its Local Inventory of Historic Resources. The Tallahassee Trust is dedicated to promoting heritage tourism and education.

While major accomplishments of the Tallahassee Trust are impressive, the day-to-day activities continue to have a major impact on rural Leon County and Florida's capital city.

Incentives Currently Provided by the City of Tallahassee for HPO Properties on the Local Register of Historic Places that are Privately Owned.

1. The browser version, that you can print out from your browser, complete, and mail in to the address on the form;
2. The Word document (this will require that you have Word available on your computer), which you can fill out on your system, then either save it to your computer and send in as an email attachment, or print it out and mail it to the address provided; or
3. The PDF version (requires free software such as the Adobe Reader to open), that you can fill out online (use your Tab key to move from field to field and checkboxes can be marked with either your mouse or your spacebar), then print out and mail in to the address provided.

Have questions about the Tallahassee-Leon County Architectural Review Board (ARB) or listing your property on the Local Register of Historic Places or historic property incentives or where to obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness application? Questions and Answers. Do you have a piece of historical property you need or wish to work on in some way? Make sure you review the Secretary of the Interior's Standards, and then complete the Application for Certificate of Appropriateness for Rehabilitation of a Historic Property. The application is in PDF format, you so you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software to use the file. If you would prefer to use the Word document for the Application, you can, this will require that you have Word on your computer. Open the Word document. You can view the Secretary of the Interior's Standards without the Reader software. Here is a list of the ARB Regulated Work Items which require receiving a Certificate of Appropriateness from the ARB. One of the services that the TTHP provides the community is to staff the Tallahassee-Leon County Architectural Review Board (ARB). The ARB is a city/county appointed board that makes recommendation to the City Commission on listing properties on the Tallahassee-Leon County Local Register of Historic Places. The recommendation of the ARB is forwarded to the Planning Commission for its recommendation to the City Commission to rezone the property Historic Preservation Overlay. The City Commission makes the final decision in the process. If you have any questions, please give the TTHP staff a call at (850) 488-7334.
